Orlando, FL (My Sportsbook) - Dwight Howard's 26 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks powered Orlando to an 88-72 victory over the only winless team in the NBA, the
New Jersey Nets.
The outcome extended the worst start in Nets history through nine games.
Former Net Vince Carter notched 10 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, and Jason Williams came off the bench to score all nine of his points in final 12 minutes to help Orlando pull away.
Matt Barnes ended with 13 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, while Mickael Pietrus and Jameer Nelson chipped in 16 and 10 points, respectively, as the Magic improved to 7-3 on the young season.
Rafer Alston recorded a triple-double against his former team, logging 17 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds in another losing effort for the Nets, who received 15 points from Bobby Simmons.
Williams and Carter hit back-to-back three-pointers to cap a 10-0 Magic run early in the fourth. The latter gave Orlando a healthy 78-62 lead with just over eight minutes left, and it was a double-digit affair the rest of the way.
The Nets were up 27-23 after the first quarter and led by 10, 36-26, at the midway point of the second. Orlando chipped away at the deficit, though, and it was tied, 42-42, at the break.
It was still deadlocked in the third before Orlando rattled off nine straight points. The Nets went scoreless for five-plus minutes and still only trailed 62-56 after Simmons hit a pair of field goals at the tail end of the frame.
