Boston, MA (My Sportsbook) - Cory Stillman scored the game-winner in the fourth round of the shootout, while Tomas Vokoun stopped 40 shots for his 34th career shutout, as the
Florida Panthers edged the
Boston Bruins, 1-0, at TD Garden.
The shootout went into a fourth round after the first three went scoreless. Michael Ryder was the shooter for Boston in the final round, but Vokoun made a great glove save on his attempt. Stillman then skated toward the net before making a quick move to the right and sliding a backhander past Tim Thomas.
"It's a breakaway, and you have to read and react. It is the first time I shot all year. You read what the other guys say and hope for the best. Both goalies played extremely well. Once you get to the shootout, obviously you're going to see one goal will be the difference. Today, it went into the fourth round, and I think that is the first time we've done that," Stillman said.
Vokoun picked up his third shutout of the year for the Panthers, who snapped a two-game skid. Florida got two of its top forwards back Thursday in Radek Dvorak and Dominic Moore. Dvorak had missed the last six games with a torn ligament in his left knee, while Moore sat out five games following nasal surgery.
"It was nice of our goaltender to have a performance like that. He has had three shutouts in his last four starts. He deserved two points tonight and it was nice to get them for him," Florida head coach Peter Deboer said.
Thomas turned aside 23 shots to pick up his 15th career shutout and third of the season for the Bruins, who ended a four-game homestand with a 2-0-2 mark.
"You can't get on the guys for not trying. We were the better team out there. The only thing that didn't happen is we didn't score," Boston head coach Claude Julien said.
The goaltenders dominated regulation play and overtime. Vokoun shined in the second period with 19 saves, while Thomas made his mark in the third with 14 stops.
Boston had four shots in overtime, compared to two for the Panthers.
