East Rutherford, NJ (My Sportsbook) - Thaddeus Young scored 20 points and came up with the game-sealing steal in the waning seconds, as the Philadelphia 76ers escaped IZOD Center with an 82-79 triumph over the still winless Nets.

Marreese Speights ended with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Lou Williams chipped in 10 points and seven assists for Philadelphia, which had lost three of four coming into the game.

Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand combined to shoot 4-for-20 for nine and five points, respectively, for the Sixers.

"When a team hasn't won many games or hasn't won any games, we call it a trap game," said Young. "We didn't want to give into that. We wanted to focus in and get the win."

Brook Lopez finished with game-highs of 23 points and 14 rebounds, but the Nets still fell to a franchise worst 0-8 to start the season. Trenton Hassell scored 13 points, while Terrance Williams added 10 and 12 boards in defeat.

New Jersey was down, 67-60, with 9 1/2 minutes to play and embarked on a 15-4 run to take the lead, 75-71, on back-to-back Lopez dunks at the midway point.

After a Speights free throw, Willie Green hit a three-pointer to tie it and an 18-footer on the next possession to retake the lead with four minutes left.

Lopez hit a turnaround in the lane and two free throws with 1:29 remaining for a short-lived lead, as Speights's three-point play off an offensive rebound gave the Sixers an 80-79 edge.

The Nets got the ball back down by one after Iguodala was whistled for a charge with 21.7 ticks remaining. The Nets called timeout to draw up a play for Lopez, whose spin move at the left block was met by Samuel Dalembert.

The Sixers center came up with the block and hit 1-of-2 free throws with 12.2 seconds to go.

At the other end, Terrance Williams' deep two-point attempt from the right corner was off the mark. Young corralled the rebound, hit one freebie to keep it a one-possession game, and stole the ensuing inbounds pass to finish off the close win.

"We're one play away," said Nets coach Lawrence Frank. "When things sometimes don't go your way, you don't get that play, you don't get that call. We just have to keep on making our own luck."

Young had 12 points in the first quarter, but the Sixers only led, 22-21, after 12 minutes. Philly still led, 43-40, at the intermission and 60-58 at the end of the third frame.

Game Notes

The Nets had won seven of the last 10 matchups between the teams...Brand went 0-for-6 from the floor...Rafer Alston and Bobby Simmons each scored 11 points for the Nets, who played just seven players due to a plethora of injuries.
