Auburn Hills, MI (My Sportsbook) - Charlie Villanueva led all scores with 30 points and Ben Gordon added 22 points and eight assists, as the Detroit Pistons routed the Charlotte Bobcats, 98-75, at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Rodney Stuckey had a solid game with 16 points, seven assists and five boards, while Will Bynum donated 16 points off the bench for Detroit, which was able to build off an 88-81 win over Philadelphia on Sunday. The Pistons improved to 4-4 this season.

Pistons rookie head coach John Kuester beat mentor Larry Brown for the first time. Kuester was an assistant under the Hall of Fame coach when the Pistons executed Brown's 'play the right way' philosophy which resulted in an NBA title over the Los Angeles Lakers in 2003-04. They also worked together in Philadelphia.

"I was very proud of our players' ability to focus and lock in to what we wanted to get accomplished defensively tonight," said Kuester. "It was very impressive. The big thing was the way we closed the second quarter and how we started the third quarter."

Nazr Mohammed had a team-high 13 points and eight boards in a reserve role for the Bobcats, who dropped a 93-81 decision to Orlando on Tuesday and have lost three straight. Gerald Wallace and Ronald Murray registered 12 and 11 points, respectively.

"Detroit was phenomenal. They did everything a good team is supposed to do," said Brown. "They got contributions from young people, everybody John put in. It was a clinic."

Charlotte led 22-20 after the opening quarter, then maintained a one-point edge at the midway point of the second. However, Villanueva's two free throws ignited a Pistons' 19-7 run to close the half and after Stuckey hit from three-point range, Detroit had a 52-41 lead at the break.

The Pistons came out of the locker room and went right back to work, mounting an 18-7 run with Villanueva accounting for 12 of the points. Following his three with a shade under seven minutes to play in the quarter, Detroit had a comfortable 70-48 lead. The advantage ballooned to 28 points at 81-53 at the end of three quarters.

Stuckey's jumper to start the fourth put the Pistons ahead by 30 and the game was never in doubt as Detroit cruised to the easy win.

Game Notes

Pistons guard Richard Hamilton (ankle) and forward Tayshaun Prince (back) did not play and are out indefinitely...The Pistons won three of four meetings with the Bobcats last season and have won eight of the last nine matchups in this series. Charlotte has dropped eight of 10 at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
