Iginla, Flames edge Stars in overtime

Dallas, TX (My Sportsbook) - Jarome Iginla scored twice, including the game- winner in overtime, and set up the game-tying score inside the final minute of regulation, as Calgary rallied for a 3-2 win against Dallas.

With the clock winding under a minute in the third, the Flames battled for the puck behind Marty Turco and Iginla shoveled it out in front for Daymond Langkow, who chipped it in to tie the game with just 49 seconds left.

The Stars were whistled for a borderline delay of game call 1:09 into overtime when Nicklas Grossman lifted the disc over the boards on a muffed clearing attempt, and the Flames gained an extra skater.

Iginla wasted little time in ending things, blasting a slap shot over the catching glove of Turco through a partial screen 16 second later for the Flames, who began a stretch of five road tilts over the next six games with Wednesday's victory.

Curtis McElhinney made his second start of the season and was solid in facing 40 shots, allowing both goals. His only other start of the year came October 9 against Dallas in a 5-2 loss.

Loui Eriksson and James Neal scored for the Stars, who saw the return of two key offensive contributors and Turco, who was back in net after a two-game absence because of flu-like symptoms. He made 20 saves in the setback, Dallas' third in a row.

The loss also saw the return of forwards Mike Modano and Jere Lehtinen. Modano, the highest scoring American-born player in league history, had been out since suffering a rib injury in Dallas' season-opening loss to Nashville.

Lehtinen, meanwhile, was limited to only two games coming in having missed the first three with a groin ailment and the last nine because of abdominal soreness.

The Stars were the aggressors in the early going, firing 14 shots on net in the first compared with Calgary's six as the game remained scoreless after 20 minutes.

McElhinney was solid again in the second, brushing aside a rising shot from Brenden Morrow on a penalty shot on his way to 16 saves in the period. That helped allow the Flames take a 1-0 lead as Iginla fired a hard shot from low in the right circle that Turco couldn't handle with 4:07 left.

The Stars evened the score 4:49 into the third. A series of quick passes set up Neal at the right side of the net and his strong wrister sailed over the far shoulder of McElhinney.

Dallas then made it a 2-1 affair as a pass out of the neutral zone found its way to Brad Richards, who skated down the right side and set up Eriksson in front for a redirection score at 8:52.

Game Notes

Calgary had just completed a five-game homestand at 3-2-0...Richards' assist ran his points streak to six games. He has two goals and seven helpers over the burst and six goals and seven assists in 11 career games versus the Flames...Calgary has won four of its last five in Dallas...The Stars ended 0- for-5 on the power play, while Calgary scored on one of its four chances with the man advantage.
