Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - ALABAMA: The Crimson Tide were the only SEC team not in action this past weekend. They have been idle since October 24th when they recorded a thrilling 12-10 victory over Tennessee. Terrence Cody blocked a 44-yard field goal attempt as time expired to seal the win, his second block in the contest. Greg McElroy finished 18-of-29 for 120 yards, and Leigh Tiffin booted four field goals for the Crimson Tide (8-0, 5-0 SEC). Mark Ingram rushed 18 times for 99 yards for Bama, which was outgained 341-256 in total yardage and was fortunate to emerge from the game victorious. There is no question that the Crimson Tide will have to be a bit sharper this upcoming weekend, as a tough LSU squad comes to town.
ARKANSAS: The Razorbacks took a break from SEC play on Saturday and crushed Eastern Michigan, 63-27, in non-conference play at DWR Razorback Stadium. Ryan Mallett missed on just two of his 16 pass attempts for the Razorbacks (4-4), leading to 248 yards and three touchdowns for the home team as they snapped a two-game slide. Broderick Green accounted for a game-high 134 yards and two touchdowns on a mere nine carries, while Knile Davis gained another 59 yards on the ground and also scored a pair of TDs. Arkansas finished the evening with 292 yards on the ground and 589 yards of total offense, The next scheduled game for the Razorbacks will take place on Saturday against a tough South Carolina squad.
AUBURN: Ben Tate ran for 144 yards and a score on 25 carries, helping Auburn snap its three-game losing streak with a 33-20 win over Ole Miss on Saturday. Chris Todd threw for 212 yards and a touchdown on 12-of-22 passing for the Tigers (6-3, 3-3 SEC), who had not won since a road win over Tennessee on October 3. Terrell Zachery caught two passes for 83 yards, while Darvin Adams added four receptions for 68 yards and a score. Walter McFadden intercepted two passes and returned one for a touchdown in the win for Auburn. There is no reason to expect anything other than a blowout in Auburn's November 7th matchup with Furman, an FCS opponent.
FLORIDA: The top-ranked Gators crushed Georgia on Saturday by a 41-17 final, thereby clinching the SEC East title and a spot in the conference championship game. Tim Tebow accounted for four touchdowns, with two on the ground and two on passes to Riley Cooper. The senior QB connected on 15-of-21 passes for 164 yards to lead Florida (8-0, 6-0 SEC) to its 18th straight win. Tebow also carried the ball 18 times for 85 yards and set a conference record for rushing TDs in the process, breaking the mark set by Georgia legend Herschel Walker, who ran for 49 scores between 1980-82. Florida gets right back to action on Saturday, November 7th, and there is no reason to believe that a matchup with Vanderbilt will even be close.
GEORGIA: The Bulldogs were outclassed by mighty Florida on Saturday by a 41-17 final in the annual rivalry game. Georgia (4-4, 3-3), which was coming off a bye, has now dropped 10 of the last 12 meetings against the Gators. Joe Cox threw for 165 yards and two touchdowns on 11-of-20 throws but was intercepted three times in the Bulldogs' third loss in four games. Logan Gray relieved Cox under center, and his first pass was intercepted and returned five yards for a touchdown to seal the lopsided outcome. Florida outgained Georgia, 374-286. Expect the Bulldogs to be heavily favored this upcoming weekend in their non- conference clash with Tennessee Tech.
KENTUCKY: There is no doubt that the Wildcats are disappointed with Saturday's 31-24 loss to Mississippi State in front of the home crowd. Put simply, Kentucky's run defense wasn't good enough, as MSU's starting tailback was able to rack up 252 yards on 33 carries. The Wildcats (4-4, 1-4) were paced by Morgan Newton who completed 11-of-18 passes for 119 yards and carried the ball 13 times for 39 yards and a score, as his team had a two-game win streak snapped. Derrick Locke accounted for a team-best 103 yards and a score on 17 attempts on the ground. The Wildcats will step outside of SEC play on Saturday to do battle with Eastern Kentucky.
LSU: Jordan Jefferson threw two touchdown passes to Brandon LaFell, and Charles Scott ran for a pair of scores as LSU beat non-conference rival Tulane, 42-0, on Saturday. Jefferson completed 11 of his 17 pass attempts through the air for 163 yards, while Scott finished with 112 yards on 18 carries for the Tigers (7-1), who extended their non-league winning streak to 22 games, the longest in the nation. LaFell made four grabs for 85 yards, and Russell Shepard added a touchdown run in the win. LSU has won the last 18 meetings with Tulane, so the victory came as no surprise. The Tigers will attempt to upset the unbeaten Crimson Tide of Alabama on Saturday in what may prove to be the college football game of the week.
MISSISSIPPI STATE: Anthony Dixon ran for 252 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to a 31-24 win over the Kentucky Wildcats in SEC action on Saturday. Dixon carried the ball 33 times for the Bulldogs (4-5, 2-3 SEC) as they won for the second time in the last three outings. Quarterback Tyson Lee converted 10-of-17 passes for 145 yards, one touchdown and a pair of interceptions in the victory. Mississippi State had five fewer offensive plays than the Wildcats, yet the Bulldogs still produced a hefty 493 yards of offense, compared to 308 yards for the locals. The Bulldogs will be idle this upcoming weekend, and they will return to the field on November 14th to battle Alabama.
OLE MISS: The inconsistent Rebels had a chance to clinch bowl eligibility on Saturday, but the result of a clash with Auburn was a 33-20 loss. Jevan Snead completed only 16-of-35 passes for 175 yards with a score for Ole Miss (5-3, 2-3) and threw two costly interceptions. Dexter McCluster ran for 186 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries in defeat, while Shay Hodge added 105 yards on seven receptions in the Rebels' first loss in three games. Ole Miss took the opening kickoff and drove 94 yards down the field for a touchdown. Unfortunately, the club was clearly outplayed from that point on. Expect the Rebels to add a win to their record on Saturday, November 7th, when they take on FCS foe Northern Arizona.
SOUTH CAROLINA: The Gamecocks entered Saturday's clash with Tennessee as a nationally ranked team, but the unranked Vols clearly appeared to be the better club, as they rolled to a 31-13 victory. Stephen Garcia completed half of his 50 pass attempts for 300 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Gamecocks (6-3, 3-3), who are 1-14 all-time at Neyland Stadium. Tennessee capitalized quickly on a pair of fumble recoveries to grab an early lead. South Carolina was limited to 65 rushing yards on 20 attempts, a disappointing showing that certainly contributed to the setback. The Gamecocks will begin preparing for Arkansas immediately, as the Razorbacks will be the opponent this upcoming weekend.
TENNESSEE: Jonathan Crompton threw two touchdowns and Montario Hardesty scored twice via the ground, as Tennessee rebounded from a heartbreaking setback to Alabama with a 31-13 victory over South Carolina on Saturday. Tennessee had a last-second field goal blocked that could have defeated the Crimson Tide. Fortunately, coach Lane Kiffin's team shook off the disappointment and played quite well this past weekend. Crompton finished with 142 yards on 12-of-24 efficiency, while Hardesty rushed for 121 yards on 23 carries for the Volunteers (4-4, 2-3 SEC), who took advantage of four South Carolina turnovers to win for the second time in three games. The Vols, like many SEC teams, will take a break from conference play this weekend when they take on state rival Memphis.
VANDERBILT: Georgia Tech marched into Nashville this past weekend and marched out with a 56-31 victory over Vanderbilt. The Commodores were victimized for 404 rushing yards and 597 total yards in the tilt. Zac Stacy ran for two scores and totaled 75 yards on just eight carries for the Commodores (2-7), whose struggles this season continued with its losing streak now extended to five games. Mackenzi Adams was 12-of-22 for 152 yards while Larry Smith threw a TD pass to Warren Norman, who also ran for 60 yards on 11 carries and returned a kick 80 yards for a score. The score was deadlocked at 28-28 after two quarters, but Tech dominated the second half. The Commodores will be heavy underdogs on Saturday against mighty Florida.
