NEW YORK (AP) -Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has won the Roberto Clemente Award. The Yankees captain was presented with the award Thursday before the start of Game 2 of the World Series between New York and the Philadelphia Phillies. The award is given annually to a major league player who combines community service with excellence on the field. Jeter is being honored for his work with his Turn 2 Foundation, which supports programs that help young people recover from drug use to a healthier lifestyle. He hit .334 this season. Clemente was a Hall of Fame right fielder with the Pittsburgh Pirates who died in a plane crash on Dec. 31, 1972, while trying to deliver supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.
