Vienna, Austria (My Sportsbook) - Fifth-seeded Spaniard Nicolas Almagro highlighted Monday's opening-round winners at the Bank Austria Tennis Trophy. The world No. 28 Almagro overcame Aussie Peter Luczak 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 on the indoor hardcourts at Wiener Stadthalle. Portuguese Frederico Gil disappointed the home crowd by taking out wild card and Austrian veteran Stefan Koubek 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Additional Day-1 wins came for German Daniel Brands, Romanian Victor Crivoi and American Wayne Odesnik. Brands bested American Robert Kendrick 7-6 (7-5), 7-5, while Odesnik topped Czech qualifier Lukas Rosol 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6). This week's top seeds are Croat Marin Cilic, Czech Radek Stepanek and Gael Monfils. German Philipp Petzschner, unseeded this week, upset France's Monfils in last year's finale here.
