Greene leads rushing attack as Jets shut out Raiders

Oakland, CA (My Sportsbook) - Shonn Greene took advantage of an opportunity, rushing for 144 yards and his first two NFL touchdowns on 19 carries, and the New York Jets recorded their first shutout in nearly six years with a 38-0 drubbing of the Oakland Raiders.

Greene, the former Iowa star, came into the game with just 30 yards on seven rushes this season, but after Leon Washington left with a knee injury, he proved to be highly effective for the Jets (4-3) in splitting carries with starter Thomas Jones.

Jones, who ran for a franchise-record 210 yards in last week's loss to Buffalo, added 121 yards on the ground and a score in the win. New York snapped a three-game losing streak in its first shutout since December 14, 2003 against the Steelers.

Mark Sanchez, playing in front of friends and family in his native California, didn't need to throw much but was effective when he did, going for 143 yards and a score on 9-of-15 efficiency. Sanchez also added a rushing score, while David Clowney caught four passes for 79 yards and his first NFL touchdown.

JaMarcus Russell was pulled late in the second quarter after turning the ball over three times for the Raiders (2-5). The former No. 1 overall selection continued his struggles, throwing for 61 yards on 6-of-11 passing with two interceptions and a lost fumble.

Bruce Gradkowski entered for Russell and completed 10-of-19 passes for 97 yards in the loss, Oakland's fourth double-digit defeat in its last five games. Justin Fargas ran for 67 yards on eight carries in a losing effort.

A pair of Russell turnovers helped the Jets take a two-touchdown lead early.

Oakland received the opening kickoff, but Russell was sacked and fumbled the ball away on the first offensive play. The Jets recovered, giving them the ball on the Raiders' four-yard line. New York went for it on 4th-and-goal from the one, and Jones rumbled into the end zone for the early lead.

Toward the end of the first quarter, Russell was intercepted by Jim Leonhard at midfield. Leonhard took it all the way down to the Oakland four-yard line, and Sanchez ran the ball in himself from three yards away for a 14-0 lead.

The Raiders were into Jets territory with under two minutes left in the first quarter, but Russell's attempted touchdown pass was intercepted by Darrelle Revis in the end zone. Revis made a spectacular over-the-shoulder catch to keep Oakland off the scoreboard.

The teams traded punts, and the Jets took over at their own seven, only to go 93 yards in 10 plays. Greene capped the drive with his first career touchdown with 5:51 left before halftime -- an eight-yard run -- and had 39 rushing yards on the series.

Gradkowski entered for the Raiders' next offensive series, but didn't have much more success, and the team once again was forced to punt the ball away.

The Jets then got into scoring position again, and Jay Feely added a 39-yard field goal before halftime for a 24-0 advantage.

Gradkowski drove the Raiders into Jets territory on their first drive of the second half but lost a fumble, giving New York the ball on its own 34. Sanchez needed five plays to score a touchdown, throwing a perfectly placed 35-yard pass into the hands of Clowney for a 31-0 lead.

Greene's 33-yard scamper midway through the fourth quarter extended New York's lead, and a goal-line stand by the Jets' defense in the final minutes preserved the shutout.
