Hamilton, Scotland (My Sportsbook) - Shaun Maloney and Scott McDonald bagged their fourth goals of the young season in the first half, helping Celtic edge Hamilton 2-1 on Sunday at New Douglas Park to reclaim the top spot in the SPL. Rangers entered the weekend with a one-point edge, but settled for a 1-1 draw Saturday against Hibernian. Celtic answered with three points at Hamilton, and moved one point ahead of the unbeaten Rangers after nine weeks. Hamilton, which has just one win, made things interesting in the final minutes when Mickael Antoine-Curier notched his third goal of the season in the 83rd, but Celtic held on for its league-high sixth win. Celtic grabbed the lead less than 15 minutes into the match when Hamilton's Marco Paixao lost possession in his own half, and Andreas Hinkel took control and swung a cross to the back post to Maloney. Maloney volleyed by Hamilton goalie Tomas Cerny and into the corner of the net to open the scoring. Celtic doubled its lead by the half-hour mark when Aiden McGeady and Georgios Samaras led a break down the right to set up McDonald from eight yards out. McDonald's shot took a deflection, which helped it sneak by a helpless Cerny. Maloney and McDonald left the match in the 83rd, and Antoine-Curier followed within seconds by redirecting a James McArthur shot past Celtic backup goalie Lukasz Zaluska to set up a frantic finish. Zaluska, who started in place of injured Artur Boruc, rescued his club in the closing minutes with a point-blank save on McArthur. Zaluska had five saves.
