SAPPORO, Japan (AP) -Former major league player Terrmel Sledge drove in five runs as the Nippon Ham Fighters defeated the Rakuten Eagles 9-4 in Game 5 of the Pacific League championship series to advance to the Japan Series. Sledge singled in two runs in the seventh inning Saturday at the Sapporo Dome and put the game out of reach with a three-run homer in the eighth. Sledge, who played for Montreal, Washington and San Diego, hit 27 homers and had 88 RBIs for the Fighters this season.
