Madrid, Spain (My Sportsbook) - Atletico Madrid has finally lost patience with Abel Resino after confirming the departure of its coach on Friday. Resino has presided over a miserable start to the season in both La Liga and the Champions League, with the final straw being Wednesday's 4-0 European defeat to Chelsea. Atletico have won just one of their seven league games and picked up just one point from a possible nine in Group D of the Champions League. Resino, a former Rojiblancos goalkeeper, was only appointed in February following the sacking of predecessor Javier Aguirre. However, the writing looked to be on the wall after president Enrique Cerezo hinted that a change was needed earlier in the week. "Inside 48 hours we have a league game and then a Copa del Rey match. This is what we are looking at, it is very worrying for us," he said. "I don't know what the solution is but we have to do something. Meanwhile, the frontrunner for the job, Michael Laudrup, is reported to have pulled out of the running. (Courtesy of sportbox.tv)
