Madrid, Spain (My Sportsbook) - Pato's goal in the 88th minute propelled AC Milan to an important 3-2 win over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday in Champions League Group C play.
Real Madrid dominated things in the first half and was gifted a goal by Milan goalkeeper Dida, who fumbled a shot into the path of Raul for a simple tap in.
However, a long-range effort from Andrea Pirlo leveled the match in the 62nd minute, and Pato scored his first goal of the game four minutes later to put Milan in front.
Substitute Royston Drenthe pulled Real back even with 15 minutes to play, but Pato volleyed home a well-weighted chip from Clarence Seedorf to give Milan the win, moving them level with Madrid at the top of the group with six points.
A terrible error by Dida handed Real the lead in the 19th minute when a shot from Esteban Granero was easily saved by the keeper. However, he bounced the ball off his knee and Raul swooped in to pick up the ball and roll it into the empty net.
The lead was nearly doubled before halftime when Lassana Diarra shot just over the crossbar, while Dida needed to parry a powerful shot from Marcelo right before the halftime whistle.
The Brazilian keeper was busy as the second half started as he needed to make back-to-back saves on Kaka and Karim Benzema to keep his side within a goal, but against the run of play, Milan found an equalizer.
Pirlo fired a shot towards goal from 35 yards that appeared to catch Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas off guard, and he allowed the ball to slip inside the near post to even the match.
Casillas then made a bad mistake four minutes later that gave Milan the lead as he came way off his line to try and clear a long ball from Massimo Ambrosini, but allowed the ball to skip past him and end up on the foot of Pato, who easily finished off the play.
Madrid fought back with 15 minutes left as Raul played a corner to Drenthe at the top of the box, and after bringing the ball down, he drove a shot into the bottom right corner.
Casillas came up with a big save on Pato in the 85th minute, and Milan had a goal called back for a foul on the ensuing corner kick, but Pato came up with the late winner to give his team a much-needed victory.
Marseille picked up its first points in Group C as Gabriel Heinze scored in the 69th minute to give the French side a 1-0 win over FC Zurich, which leaves the two sides level on three points.
Bordeaux took over the top spot in Group A as they downed Bayern Munich, 2-1. An own goal from Michael Ciani handed Bayern the lead six minutes into the game, but he also scored for Bordeaux in the first half before the German side was reduced to 10 men as Thomas Muller was sent off on the half-hour mark. Marc Planus then scored the go-ahead goal in the 40th minute, which drops Bayern to third place because of a 1-0 win by Juventus over Maccabi Haifa.
Manchester United has won all three of its Group B contests as Antonio Valencia scored in the 86th minute to give the Red Devils a 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow, while second-placed Wolfsburg dropped five points behind United as they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Besiktas.
Chelsea has also gotten off to a perfect start with the Blues cruising past Atletico Madrid, 4-0. Salomon Kalou scored twice for the Group D leaders, which remain three points clear of FC Porto after the Portuguese side beat APOEL, 2-1, with Hulk providing both of Porto's goals.
