Stockholm, Sweden (My Sportsbook) - Top-seeded Swedish favorite Robin Soderling and second-seeded Tommy Haas of Germany were among Wednesday's winners at the Stockholm Open. The French Open runner-up Soderling subdued lucky-loser Giovanni Lapentti of Ecuador 6-3, 6-0, while Haas handled France's Florent Serra 6-3, 6-4 in some opening-round action on the indoor courts at Royal Tennis Hall. Soderling was last year's Stockholm runner-up to Argentine star David Nalbandian and also reached the final here back in 2003. The second round commenced with three matches on Day 3, and a mild upset occurred when massive-serving Swede Joachim Johansson dismissed fourth-seeded Argentine Juan Monaco 6-4, 6-4. The 6-foot-6 wild card Johansson popped 11 aces en route to a 62-minute victory. In some other opening-round play, former Aussie Open runner-up Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus drove out third-seeded former world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain 6-4, 6-2 and eighth-seeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez got past talented Latvian Ernests Gulbis 6-2, 6-4. In other second-round action on Wednesday, Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez grounded German Simon Greul 6-3, 7-5 and Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci outlasted Argentine Leonardo Mayer 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Bellucci should have his hands full with Johansson in Friday's quarterfinals. The second round will wrap up on Thursday, including matches for Soderling and Haas. The world No. 10 Soderling will encounter Italian Andreas Seppi, while Haas will lock horns with Finn Jarkko Nieminen.
