Luxembourg, Luxembourg (My Sportsbook) - Fourth-seeded Daniela Hantuchova and last week's Linz champion Yanina Wickmayer posted first-round wins, while third-seeded Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues came up a second- round loser Wednesday at the $220,000 Luxembourg Open. The Slovakian Hantuchova lambasted German Tatjana Malek 6-1, 6-0, while a fifth-seeded Wickmayer, of Belgium, remained hot with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) decision against Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru at CK Sportcenter Kockelscheuer. The U.S. Open semifinalist Wickmayer captured her second WTA Tour title of the year last week. Medina Garrigues, meanwhile, gave way to Belgian qualifier Kirsten Flipkens 7-5, 6-3. Sixth-seeded German Sabine Lisicki reached the quarterfinals by handling Slovenian wild card Polona Hercog 7-6 (7-1), 6-4. In other Wednesday play, Swiss Timea Bacsinszky landed in the quarters by leveling Italian Roberta Vinci 6-2, 6-2 and Czech Lucie Hradecka reached the second round with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory over Colombian qualifier Catalina Castano. In some second-round action here on Thursday, Hantuchova will meet Hradecka, Wickmayer will be opposed by France's Alize Cornet and five-time Luxembourg champion Kim Clijsters will tangle with Swiss veteran Patty Schnyder. The former world No. 1 Clijsters was last month's surprise U.S. Open champ. This week's titlist will claim $37,000.
