Moscow, Russia (My Sportsbook) - Four seeded women, including No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska and No. 5 Muscovite Nadia Petrova, went by way of the upset Wednesday at the $1 million Kremlin Cup. Russian glamour girl Maria Kirilenko toppled Radwanska in 6-3, 6-3 fashion in a first-round matchup at Olympic Stadium, while the 2006 Moscow runner-up Petrova was ousted by Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 in a second- round affair. Radwanska is now officially out of contention for the WTA Tour's season-ending event in Doha. Two other upsets came in the opening round, as capable Hungarian Agnes Szavay took out fourth-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta 4-6, 3-0, retired and qualifier Evgeniya Rodina erased sixth-seeded fellow Russian Elena Vesnina 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. Pennetta quit on Wednesday due to a left knee injury. Eighth-seeded Italian veteran Francesca Schiavone avoided the upset bug by sneaking past Spanish qualifier Nuria Llagostera Vives 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-3 in round one. Schiavone is fresh off her runner-up finish last week in Osaka. One other Day-3 match saw Belarusian Olga Govortsova handle Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 6-1, 6-4 in the first round. In some second-round action here on Thursday, top-seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva will take on Bulgarian qualifier Tsvetana Pironkova and second- seeded Serbian star Jelena Jankovic will battle Czech Lucie Safarova. The former world No. 1 Jankovic defeated Zvonareva in last year's Moscow finale. This week's winner will claim $157,427.
