Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - It may not be the best week to be Anthony Kim.

He came into the Presidents Cup two weeks ago in poor form, but after one session with Phil Mickelson, he reverted back to the swashbuckling lad who trounced the competition last year on tour, then Sergio Garcia at the Ryder Cup.

Kim struggled some on Friday with Jim Furyk and captain Fred Couples sat him Saturday morning. Kim came back strong Saturday afternoon with Furyk, then demolished Robert Allenby in singles.

The U.S. won the Presidents Cup handily, but things got...well...uncomfortable.

Allenby told members of the media afterwards that Kim got back to the hotel at 4 a.m. Sunday morning, just a few hours before their scheduled match. And, that Kim came home "sideways."

Allenby even went so far as to say Kim was the next "John Daly."

Assuming Kim doesn't have some type of mental disorder that makes him walk in a lateral shuffling motion, nor is he a guitar-playing, gambling, Oreo addict, Allenby's charge is simple and extremely dangerous.

This isn't the first time Kim has had to deal with questions about being "sideways."

Kim did several interviews last season about how during his rookie year his night-time habits might have cost him success. Kim never flatly said he was off the stuff, but with Allenby's rather reckless statements, Kim has to deal with this, maybe forever.

It seemed like this sort of thing was behind Kim, and now he will to have answer questions about it for a long while every time he's in the media center.

Kim denied the charge and he, Allenby and the PGA Tour all put out statements, but the damage is done. Allenby apologized to Kim and Kim accepted, but for Kim, this will linger over his career forever.

Hopefully, this will stick with Allenby as well.

The Aussie looks especially bad since his statement made reference to the fact that his quotes were taken out of context. According to originally published stories, Allenby was asked by a reporter if his quotes were on the record, and Allenby confirmed that they were.

Hard for quotes to be taken out of context when they are so inflammatory the reporter needs to make double-certain they are on the record.

Allenby should've manned up and said, "Yep, I stick by what I said no matter how silly I look for diming someone else's business out, especially since he demolished me in singles and this looks completely like sour grapes."

But Kim will definitely bear the brunt of it.

Golfers are a boring lot. Other than Daly, there hasn't been a figure in the sport in years that has had to answer about off-course issues quite like this. These claims are sexy, and therefore will never go away.

To make matters even more interesting, Kim fired his caddie last week at the Justin Timberlake event and replaced him with a former college teammate. His former looper was on the bag for all of Kim's wins and his Ryder Cup experience last year as well, but Kim feels like he needs changes. Kim hasn't had a great year, but stability wouldn't hurt Kim at the moment.

(How perfect is it that after a week in which Kim is accused of the things he was, he goes to Vegas to play a competitive event?)

No one can escape today's media. With the Internet and camera phones and blogs, everyone with any level of fame is at risk for his or her behavior being exposed. Kim needs to lay low, probably both in public and his private life.

He can blame Allenby for being the sorest loser in golf, but Kim needs to level things off. It's been a terrible year for Kim on the course, but he had a good week at Harding Park.

It all got erased very quickly, but Kim can build on what happened at the Presidents Cup and come back in 2010 with a good outlook. Winning cures most, but he better be ready to answer the same questions.

Thanks, Robert. Next time, maybe Kim will take it easy on you in his post- "sideways" state.

RANDOM THOUGHTS

- Unexpectedly, I enjoy the Fall Series. The money race/card-for-next-year storylines are interesting and always fluctuate. Every year, a good player does well in the Fall Series and it translates to the following year. There's not much to get into in October golf, but this works for me.

- The European Tour's 2010 schedule has been partially released. So far, three tournaments are out, with some serious prize money, and two new ones are in. Next year's schedules for all tours are intriguing due to the question of whether they can sustain themselves in this economy.

- If you ask me, the best player without a major might be Lee Westwood. He could've won last year's U.S. Open or this year's British Open. He won in Portugal on Sunday and moved to the top of the Race to Dubai, which is the new name for the Order of Merit.

- The Philadelphia Phillies are my favorite team of all time, including the 1999 U.S. Ryder Cup team. Relentless squad.

- Movie moment - "Major League" is, in this man's humble opinion, the most overlooked baseball movie. How about the drama at the end when Willie Mays Hayes gets on with two outs? Jake Taylor, the aging veteran, comes out for his last shot at a winner. He signals down to the dugout and manager Lou Brown says, "that's a hell of an idea." So Taylor bunts, Willy scores and they win. That's a hell of an idea? Your 40-year-old catcher (with two bad knees that make him slower than my 93-year-old grandmother), with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, bunts? That is galactically bad baseball strategy, but thank god for movies, because it all worked out in the end.
