Moscow, Russia (My Sportsbook) - Second-seeded Victor Hanescu of Romania and fourth-seeded Russian favorite Igor Andreev were a pair of upset victims Tuesday at the $1.08 million Kremlin Cup tennis event.
A pair of Americans drove out two of the top-four seeds, as 91st-ranked Wayne Odesnik topped Hanescu 5-7, 7-5, 6-4, while Robby Ginepri knocked out the 2005 Moscow champion Andreev in 6-3, 6-7 (9-11), 7-6 (7-1) fashion on the indoor hardcourts at Olympic Stadium. Ginepri advanced in 2 hours, 32 minutes.
The struggling Hanescu has now dropped his last five opening-round matches.
A pair of seeds avoided upsets, as No. 6 Serb Janko Tipsarevic handled Austrian Daniel Koellerer 6-4, 6-3 and No. 7 French veteran Fabrice Santoro overcame Russian wild card Andrey Kuznetsov 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Additional Day-2 wins came for Kazakhstan's Andrey Golubev, Spaniard Marcel Granollers, Belgian Christophe Rochus, Ukrainian qualifier Sergiy Stakhovsky and Kazakhstani qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin.
Igor Kunitsyn upset Marat Safin in last year's popular all-Russian final here. Both players are in the draw and unseeded this week. On Wednesday, Safin will open up against top-seeded compatriot Nikolay Davydenko, who was last week's surprise titlist at the Shanghai Masters, where he stunned former top- ranked superstar Rafael Nadal in the finale. Davydenko captured this Moscow event in 2004, 2006 and 2007.
The 2009 Moscow champ will collect $170,000.
