Brady, Pats rack up record performance in dismantling of Titans

Foxboro, MA (My Sportsbook) - Tom Brady recorded an NFL record with five touchdown passes in the second quarter as the New England Patriots set several franchise records in a 59-0 rout of the winless Tennessee Titans in snowy conditions at Gillette Stadium.

Brady finished the game 29-for-34 with 380 yards and six touchdowns, which tied his own franchise mark. The five touchdown passes in the second quarter were the most by any player in a quarter since 1950.

The margin of victory was the largest in the league since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970, matching the Los Angeles Rams' 59-0 win over the Atlanta Falcons in 1976.

Randy Moss finished the game with eight catches for 129 yards and three scores while Wes Welker had 10 catches for 150 yards and two TDs for the Patriots (4-2), who were coming off a 20-17 loss in Denver last week.

Kevin Faulk caught the other touchdown while Laurence Maroney had 16 carries for 123 yards and a score for New England, which has won its last four games against Tennessee.

New England set franchise marks in points scored, yards (619) and margin of victory. The previous record for points was 56, which the team did against Buffalo on November 18, 2007 and the New York Jets on September 9, 1979. The previous yardage record was 597 and margin of victory was 53, both of which were against the Jets on the aforementioned date.

"You never go into a game thinking it's going to be like this. Anytime, you turn the ball over, that could lead to some points and it did today. The Titans are a good football team. I know it wasn't their day today. I'm not trying to say it was. It was just our day today," said Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

Kerry Collins had the worst game of his career as he was 2-for-12 for minus- seven yards with an interception and a fumble lost for the Titans (0-6), who have lost their first six games of the season for the first time since 1984, when the then Houston Oilers lost their first 10 games.

Chris Johnson was the only bright spot on offense for Tennessee as he had 128 yards on 17 carries. The Titans have lost seven straight regular season games going back to last season and six straight on the road. This was their worst margin of defeat since the team began play in 1960 as the Houston Oilers. The previous mark was a 61-7 setback to the Bengals in 1989.

"Fortunate for me, career-wise, I've never been through anything like this. and unfortunately it happened tonight," said Titans head coach Jeff Fisher. "Things have turned for worse awfully quick for this franchise."

On New England's first possession the team got into scoring position, but Stephen Gostkowski's 39-yard attempt went wide right.

The New England defense held Tennessee and after getting the ball back was able to put points on the board. On the fifth play of the drive with the ball at the Tennessee 45, Maroney took the ball up the middle untouched and raced into the end zone for a 7-0 lead with 5:51 left in the first.

Following a Titans three-and-out, New England had the ball at its own 22. On the third play of the drive, Brady found Welker for a 48-yard catch-and-run. The drive, though, stalled and a 33-yard field goal from Gostkowski made it a 10-0 game with 47 seconds left in the first.

On the Titans' ensuing possession, LenDale White fumbled the ball and Jonathan Wilhite recovered. Six plays later, the Patriots went with a flea flicker play and Brady found Moss wide open in the end zone from 40 yards out for 17-0 lead with 9:56 to play in the first half.

Collins fumbled the first snap of Tennessee's next touch and two plays later Brady and Moss connected again, this time from 28 yards out for a 24-0 lead.

Collins was then picked off by Darius Butler and that led to another Brady touchdown as he hooked up with Faulk on a 38-yard catch-and-run into the end zone with 6:20 left in the first half.

Tennessee didn't turn the ball over on its next possession, but it did go three-and-out, and, after getting the ball back, Brady threw his fourth touchdown of the quarter, this time a 30-yard toss to Welker.

Brady wasn't done there as New England got the ball back with 1:16 to play and excellent field position as the team started at midfield. He threw his fifth touchdown pass of the quarter on a five-yard toss to Welker for a 45-0 lead at halftime.

"Some days out there when it's snowy like that, it's actually an advantage for the offense. Today was one of those days because we had good footing. It was fun to be a part of it...this is football, this is how it should be," said Brady.

The Patriots started the third quarter with the ball and Brady picked up where he left off as he drove the team methodically down the field and capped the nine-play, 65-yard drive with a nine-yard toss to Moss.

With rookie Brad Hoyer under center for his first action in the NFL, New England continued to put points on the board with its ninth score in its past nine drives. Hoyer capped the 12-play, 61-yard drive with a one-yard rush into the end zone for a 59-0 lead with 11 seconds left in the third.
