Shanghai, China (My Sportsbook) - Sixth-seeded Russian Nikolay Davydenko defeated top-seeded Spaniard Rafael Nadal in straight sets on Sunday in the final of the $5.25 million Shanghai ATP Masters. Davydenko posted a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory over Nadal for his fourth title of the year and 18th of his career. Davydenko, who collected a $616,500 first- place prize, notched his third win in seven career matches against the world's No. 2 ranked player. "I think a little bit was luck, but mostly I was playing very well today," Davydenko said. Nadal, a six-time major champion, fell to 36-11 lifetime in finals. "I don't like to lose, but I had my chances," said Nadal. "He beat me. He played (a) very good match. Just congratulate him, because he deserved the victory." This inaugural tournament closed out a three-week Asian swing on the ATP. It served as the penultimate Masters event, with the last one coming in Paris next month.
