Forsman still in front at The Woodlands

The Woodlands, TX (My Sportsbook) - Dan Forsman struggled a bit on the back nine Saturday, but still managed a one-under 71 and is atop the leaderboard after the second round of the Administaff Small Business Classic.

Forsman, the first-round leader after a 64 on Friday, is through 36 holes at nine-under 135 and is one stroke clear at the The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course.

Jay Haas, who has won his last two starts on the Champions Tour, including the Senior Players Championship, shot a six-under 66 on Saturday and moved into a tie for second place with Gene Jones (67) and Mark Wiebe (69). The trio finished at minus-eight.

Tom Watson (68), Bob Tway (70) and John Cook (72) share fifth at seven-under 137.

Forsman parred his first three holes, but birdied the fourth and sixth holes to reach 10-under par for the championship. He birdied the ninth hole from 25 feet to get to minus-11 and was in firm command of the tournament.

Things fell apart some on the back nine, starting at the 11th. He hit a poor drive, then missed a short par putt and made bogey at the par-four hole. Three holes later, Forsman bogeyed the par-three 14th.

Forsman got one back with a birdie at the par-five 15th. He was 10-under par and two ahead of the group in the clubhouse at eight-under par, but trouble loomed.

Forsman missed the fairway at the closing hole en route to a bogey. That hiccup at the par-four last gave Forsman a one-stroke cushion with one round to play.

If Forsman can hang on Sunday, it will be his second victory of the season on the Champions Tour. He won a playoff over Don Pooley to capture the AT&T Champions Classic in March and titled five times in his PGA Tour career.

Forsman was also a frequent competitor on the PGA Tour at the Houston Open, which was contested at The Woodlands. He believes experience is certainly helping.

"I like to think it's helping a lot," said Forsman. "It's a big day tomorrow. I need to play one shot at a time. It's exciting to be here."

Two-time defending champion and leading money winner on tour Bernhard Langer (71), Olin Browne (70), Bruce Lietzke (71), Russ Cochran (71) and Jay Don Blake (72) are tied for eighth place at five-under 139.
