Birmingham, England (My Sportsbook) - A 52nd-minute goal from James Collins handed Aston Villa a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Villa Park on Saturday, dealing the Blues their second successive defeat away from home.
Didier Drogba put the visitors ahead after 15 minutes with a 30-yard strike that should have been saved by Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel, but the hosts responded before halftime with a goal from Richard Dunne.
Collins then nodded home a corner kick early in the second half and Friedel atoned for his earlier mistake with big saves on Deco, Florent Malouda and Nicolas Anelka in the final 20 minutes.
With the result, Villa moves into sixth place while Chelsea drops out of the top spot, one point back of Manchester United, which beat Bolton, 2-1 on Saturday.
Following a positive start from Villa, it was Chelsea that grabbed the lead 15 minutes into the game with Drogba firing a dipping 30-yard effort that bounced right in front of Friedel and skipped over the diving keeper.
It was a bad mistake from the American, but it took the home side only 17 minutes to get back on level terms as a corner kick skipped off the head of Chelsea's Frank Lampard at the near post and was driven into the back of the net by a diving Dunne at the far post.
Chelsea could have regained the lead shortly before halftime when Deco's neat chip was saved at the top corner by Friedel, while it took Villa seven minutes after halftime to surge in front.
Again it was a corner kick that Villa capitalized on as Ashley Young swung the ball towards the far post and found the head of Collins, who nodded it home from a few yards.
Friedel then preserved the win with a few nice stops as Deco was played into the box by Drogba, but shot straight at the keeper, while Malouda's powerful shot from the top of the box was parried and Anelka was denied at close range.
Tottenham is third after their 2-1 win over Portsmouth, which has now lost eight of its first nine games, Arsenal took over fourth place with a 3-1 victory against Birmingham, while Liverpool suffered its fourth defeat of the season as Darren Bent's goal in the fifth minute was enough to give Sunderland a 1-0 win over the Reds.
Everton salvaged a 1-1 draw at home against Wolverhampton as the Toffees got a goal from Diniyar Bilyaletdinov in the 88th minute and James Beattie scored twice to lead Stoke City to a 2-1 win over West Ham, leaving the Potters in ninth place.
