Miami, FL (My Sportsbook) - Justin Smith was nine-under par through 16 holes of his second round Friday when play was suspended for the day at the Miccosukee Championship.
There was a 67-minute lightning delay during the round that pushed things back. The second round will resume Saturday at 7:45 a.m. (et) with 15 players needing to finish their rounds.
Smith was four-under for the second round and is on top by one stroke.
Won Joon Lee carded a four-under 67, while Josh Broadaway shot three-under 68. They share the clubhouse lead at eight-under-par 134.
Chad Collins, who is eighth on the money list, shot five-under 66 Friday and headlines a group of six players tied for fourth at minus-seven.
Smith collected birdies on three, five and seven to gain a share of the lead at minus-eight. He parred his next eight holes, then made birdie on the par- five 16th before play was called for the day.
Smith needs a win this week, as the top 60 on the money list get into next week's Nationwide Tour Championship. He entered this week 128th on the money list, nearly $59,000 outside the top 60.
Lee posted two bogeys and two birdies in a five-hole span from the fourth to remain at minus-four. Around the turn, he eagled the par-five 10th, then birdied 15 and 18 to finish at minus-eight.
"It's the first time I've really driven the ball with confidence in the last six months," admitted Lee. "I switched back to my old driver that I used early in the year last year and I feel more confident with my ball flight."
Broadaway birdied the fifth, but gave that stroke back with a bogey on the ninth. He poured in four birdies in a six-hole stretch from the 10th to jump to nine-under.
The 31-year-old Broadaway stumbled to a three-putt bogey on the 18th at Miccosukee Golf & Country Club to finish at eight-under.
"The delay was good for me. I wasn't hitting it great, nothing special," said Broadaway. "I think the delay just calmed me down a little. I was spraying my driver and I got to hit a few balls on the range and figure out why I was hitting it a little off."
Collins shares fourth with Tjaart van der Walt (67), Brian Smock (69), Kyle Reifers (67), Troy Merritt (70) and Bradley Iles, who is four-under through 16 holes of the second round.
First-round leader Andrew Buckle tripped to a one-over 72 and slipped into a tie for 10th at six-under-par 136.
