The Woodlands, TX (My Sportsbook) - Dan Forsman fired an eight-under 64 to take the first-round lead Friday at the Administaff Small Business Classic.

Chasing his second win of the season, Forsman posted nine birdies and a bogey to build a one-shot advantage over John Cook at The Woodlands Country Club.

Cook, the 11-time PGA Tour winner, birdied his last hole for a seven-under 65.

Three-time major champion Nick Price had a five-under 67 to share third place with Bob Tway, Mark Wiebe and Jay Don Blake.

Forsman started his first round on the back nine at the Tournament Course and made a three-putt bogey at the 12th -- but that was his only dropped shot of the day.

He played the next 11 holes at nine-under par to take the lead.

"I felt confident, even after my three-putt," said Forsman, who captured his first Champions Tour win at the AT&T Champions Classic in March. "Operative word is I relaxed and enjoyed myself."

Forsman began his birdie run -- he made nine of them in the 11 holes -- with a pitching-wedge to two feet at the 13th. He added four more birdies on the back nine to post a 32.

Back-to-back 12-foot birdie putts at Nos. 1 and 2 gave Forsman six birdies in a row. He added two consecutive birdies at the fourth and fifth to get to eight-under.

"I really felt the momentum out there. It's a subconscious state," said Forsman, 51, who won five times on the PGA Tour. "It's the kind of course where if you get some positive energy, you can get it going."

The hot start left Forsman with only one question: How do I do this again?

"That's my challenge for tomorrow," he said.

Cook, who has won twice on the Champions Tour, posted eight birdies and a bogey for his 65. He knocked a nine-iron to tap-in range for a closing birdie at No. 9 to pull within a shot of the lead.

"I really hit some nice irons today," Cook said.

Two-time defending champion Bernhard Langer opened with a four-under 68 to lead a five-way tie for seventh place.
