Perth, Scotland (My Sportsbook) - St. Johnstone manager Derek McInnes has signed a new one-year contract extension with the SPL newcomers. McInnes took charge at McDiarmid Park in November 2007 and guided the Saints to promotion in May 2009. He is now under contract with the club until the summer of 2011, as is assistant manager Tony Docherty. McInnes told the Dundee Courier: "If you are doing well as a footballer on the park you will attract interest from other clubs and, as a manager, taking the club to the SPL was bound to attract attention. "However, Tony and I always made it clear we wanted to give the SPL a go with Saints. "Our chairman, Geoff Brown, gave me the job when I was far from the favorite for it. He must have seen something in me he liked and handed me the opportunity. "That was important to me and we are striving to take the football club forward. "This season, that means retaining our status in the SPL. There is still a lot to be done in taking this club as far as we want it to go." (Courtesy of sportbox.tv)
