Chorzow, Poland (My Sportsbook) - Slovakia used a third-minute own goal for a 1-0 win over Poland on Wednesday to capture Group 3 in European qualifying and advance to its first World Cup.

Switzerland grabbed the last automatic spot from Europe with a 0-0 tie against Israel to win Group 2 on Wednesday.

Denmark, Germany, Spain, England, Serbia, Italy and the Netherlands wrapped up berths prior to the final matchday for next year's tournament in South Africa.

Portugal, Greece, Slovenia and Ukraine all clinched second in their respective groups, joining Bosnia-Herzegovina, France, Ireland and Russia in the European playoffs. The pairing for next month's playoffs will de drawn Monday.

Slovakia didn't play well at Slaski Stadium in Poland, but Seweryn Gancarczyk turned the ball past his own goalie in the opening minutes and the visitors held off Slovenia for first in the group.

Slovenia made it to the playoffs with an easy 3-0 win over San Marino.

Switzerland settled for the scoreless draw, but it was enough to send it into its second straight World Cup as Group 2 winners. Greece finished behind the Swiss with a 2-1 win over Luxembourg.

In Group 1, Portugal got goals from Nani, Simao, Miguel Veloso and Edinho in a 4-0 win over Malta that clinched second behind Denmark.

In Group 6, Ukraine rolled to a 6-0 win over Andorra to claim the second spot.

Also of note in European qualifying, Euro champion Spain completed a perfect qualifying campaign with a 5-2 victory at Bosnia-Herzegovina. Spain won all 10 of its qualifiers.
