Washington, D.C. (My Sportsbook) - U.S. forward Charlie Davies was injured in a deadly one-car accident Tuesday morning, although his condition is not life- threatening. The accident happened just outside Washington, D.C. around 3:15 a.m., and Davies had surgery Tuesday afternoon after suffering a lacerated bladder and two fractures in his right leg. He also had facial fractures and a left elbow fracture and is in serious but stable condition. "Injuries of this nature usually require a recovery period of six to 12 months and extensive rehabilitation," said U.S. Soccer physician Dr. Dan Kalbac. No other U.S. players were in the car, which "was pretty much split in half," U.S. Park Police spokesman David Schlosser told the Washington Post. The Post also reported the 23-year-old Davies was a passenger in the car, which crashed into a metal guardrail. One of the three occupants was pronounced dead at the scene. "Obviously, as a team we were saddened to learn this news," U.S. coach Bob Bradley said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Charlie and his family, as well as the people in the car and the families of the others involved. "As a team, we are relying on each other in a moment that has for sure hit us all hard." The U.S., which clinched a berth in the 2010 World Cup on Saturday with a 3-2 win at Honduras, plays a World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica on Wednesday in Washington, D.C.
