U.S. adds friendly against Denmark

Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - The United States, which clinched a spot in the 2010 World Cup on Saturday, will face fellow qualifiers Denmark on Nov. 18, in Aarhus, Denmark, the team announced Tuesday.

The U.S. defeated Honduras 3-2 on Saturday to remain atop the final qualifying group in CONCACAF and clinch a Cup berth, and Wednesday's match against Costa Rica will only determine if it finishes in the top spot.

Denmark wrapped up Group 1 in European qualifying Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Sweden, and also ends its qualifying campaign Wednesday against Hungary.

"Having qualified for the World Cup, our focus is now on continuing to improve as a team as we build toward next summer. Denmark is a very strong opponent," United States coach Bob Bradley said.

"They proved their quality throughout the qualifying campaign, and this match provides another great opportunity to face quality opposition in a road environment."

The U.S. will play its 11th international this year on foreign soil against Denmark. The Americans had five matches in South Africa, which hosts the World Cup, when it advanced to the final of the Confederations Cup in June.

The Americans last played in Europe last June, losing 1-0 at Spain. The U.S. stunned then-No. 1 Spain at the Confederations Cup this past June, but lost in the final to Brazil, 3-2.

Kickoff against Denmark is set for 2:30 p.m. (ET).

Denmark, ranked five spots behind the U.S. in 16th in the FIFA rankings, beat Portugal and Sweden on the road to qualify for its fourth World Cup.

The U.S. and Denmark have played five times - never on Danish soil - and the teams have split the series with an even 1-1-3 record.

In the teams' last meeting in 2007, Jonathan Bornstein and Kenny Cooper scored in their national team debuts to help the U.S. to a 3-1 victory. The match was also the first under Bradley.

The U.S. plays Costa Rica in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday at 8 p.m. (ET) for the top spot in CONCACAF. Second-place Mexico visits Trinidad and Tobago, but cannot catch the Americans if they defeat Costa Rica. Both teams have already qualified for the World Cup.
