Osaka, Japan (My Sportsbook) - Defending champion and top seed Caroline Wozniacki cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 win over Japan's Ayumi Morita to reach the second round at the $220,000 HP Japan Women's Open. Wozniacki, who lost to Belgian star Kim Clijsters in the U.S. Open final last month, snapped a three-match losing streak. The Dane fell to Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak in Tokyo before losing to Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in Beijing. Up next for Wozniacki will be Britain's Katie O'Brien. Second-seeded and former Wimbledon runner-up Marion Bartoli of France continued her quality season by handling Kazakhstan's Galina Voskoboeva 6-3, 7-5 on the hardcourts at Osaka's Utsubo Tennis Center. Bartoli will face Japan's Kurumi Nara here on Wednesday. Meanwhile, third-seeded Aussie Samantha Stosur stifled China's Peng Shuai 6-2, 6-4 and a sixth-seeded Wozniak topped Aussie qualifier Sophie Ferguson 6-1, 7-5. In a battle of veteran performers, 35-year-old Jill Craybas outlasted 39-year- old wild card and long-time Japanese crowd favorite Kimiko Date Krumm 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. Additional Day-2 opening-round wins came for Japan's Akiko Morigami and the wild card Nara, Taipei's Yung-Han Chan and qualifier Kai-Chen Chang, and American Vania King. This week's winner will collect $37,000.
