Melbourne, Australia (My Sportsbook) - Belgian Justine Henin, who last month announced her intention to return to the professional circuit, was given a wildcard to play in the 2010 Australian Open. Henin, a seven-time Grand Slam winner, was the 2004 Aussie Open winner. "I spoke to Justine's team over the weekend and was happy to grant her request for a wildcard into the Australian Open," tournament director Craig Tiley said. "Justine is the ultimate competitor, the winner of seven Grand Slam titles, and we are looking forward to welcoming her back to the Australian Open. I know Justine will not have made the decision to come out of retirement lightly, and have no doubt she will be in great shape and prepared to compete against the world's best." In May of last year, the diminutive Henin shocked the tennis world by announcing her decision to retire, as she became the first-ever reigning world No. 1 to do so. Another Belgian, Kim Clijsters, completed her improbable return last month by winning the U.S. Open. She was a wildcard entry. "Watching Kim Clijsters' amazing win at the U.S. Open was inspirational - who knows, perhaps the two will meet again at the Australian Open - I'd certainly look forward to that match," Tiley added. Eight wildcards are available to both the men's and women's event in Melbourne.
