Manchester, England (My Sportsbook) - Wayne Rooney has been forced to drop out of the England squad for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Belarus. The Manchester United striker has returned to Manchester after a scan showed that he had suffered a calf injury in Saturday's 1-0 defeat against Ukraine. A brief statement on the FA's official website added: "Steven Gerrard was assessed by the medical staff and will remain with the squad but, following a scan on his calf, Wayne Rooney has returned to Manchester United." Meanwhile, Fabio Capello has drafted United goalkeeper Ben Foster into his squad for Wednesday's game as a replacement for the suspended Robert Green. Foster was omitted from the squad for Saturday's defeat after being sent for scans on bruised ribs sustained in United's 2-2 draw with Sunderland last weekend. The 26-year-old endured a poor game against the Black Cats and was criticized for allowing Kenwyne Jones to head the visitors into the lead in the second half. He was also at fault for two Manchester City goals in last month's 4-3 derby win for Sir Alex Ferguson's side at Old Trafford. Green misses Wednesday's game after being sent off in the opening stages of Saturday's loss in Dnipro. David James is expected to start against Belarus after coming on as a substitute for Aaron Lennon after Green's early departure. Foster has two England caps to his name. He made his international debut when he started the 1-0 friendly defeat to Spain in February 2007 and then came on as a substitute against Slovakia seven months ago. (Courtesy of sportbox.tv)
