London, England (My Sportsbook) - England boss Fabio Capello was critical of the referee's decision to send goalie Robert Green off in the early stages of Saturday's World Cup qualifying defeat to Ukraine. The West Ham United shot-stopper was dismissed after only 13 minutes for bringing down Artem Milevskiy after Rio Ferdinand's mistake has put the keeper in trouble. Although Andriy Shevchenko missed the resulting penalty, Ukraine went on to win the match 1-0 thanks to Sergiy Nazarenko's shot which hit Ashley Cole on its way into in the net. The result virtually guaranteed Ukraine a place in next month's playoffs, while Croatia seem certain to now finish third in the group and out of next summer's tournament in South Africa. Capello said of the game's key incident: "I'm happy because we played the second half very well but playing against 11 is not easy away with 10 men. "We played for 90 minutes well, but there was one silly mistake in the first half. I'm proud of my team because in the second half we played very well and created chances right until the final minute. "But when the referee decided to give the red card to Green, that was a big mistake. He was not too close to the moment of the foul. "He gave a red card for Rio (Ferdinand). He thought it was Rio who made the foul. But he was running and the keeper was on the ground diving. "This is a big difference. I saw the fourth referee speak with the referee and decide to change the decision." (Courtesy of sportbox.tv)
