Bolton, England (My Sportsbook) - Defender Gary Cahill believes Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill made a mistake in letting him leave to join Bolton Wanderers. Cahill has been drafted into the England squad for the World Cup qualification double-header against Ukraine and Belarus on the back of his impressive club form for the Trotters. The 23-year-old centre-half was allowed to leave Villa Park in January 2008 after struggling to break into the first team and Cahill has suggested that O'Neill was wrong to let him move on. "It was a shame I moved on but I knew I had to. I made the decision and, once you make that, you go forward. I'm at Bolton now and continuing my career," he said, 'Did O'Neill made a mistake in letting me go? He is a great manager. Maybe ask him that question. But everyone makes mistakes from time to time. "He has moved on and brought in some centre-halves who are doing well so there are no hard feelings. "He never shoved me out of the door. I spoke with him a few times. It was just at that time, he couldn't guarantee me playing week in and week out, which is what I wanted to do. "I can't do anything when I'm sitting on the bench. I've improved a lot since my days at Villa through playing week in and week out." (Courtesy of sportbox.tv)
