Tokyo, Japan (My Sportsbook) - Frenchmen Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gael Monfils both rallied from a set down to post quarterfinal victories Friday at the Japan Open.
The second-seeded Tsonga pulled out a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Latvian qualifier Ernests Gulbis, while the fourth-seeded Monfils came from behind to earn a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka.
Tsonga and Monfils will meet in one of Saturday's semifinals.
The other semifinal will pit Australia's Lleyton Hewitt against Mikhail Youzhny of Russia. Hewitt, the eighth seed, cruised past French qualifier Edouard Roger-Vasselin, 6-4, 6-0, in Friday's quarters, while Youzhny dumped fifth-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). Berdych was last year's Tokyo winner.
Hewitt, a two-time Grand Slam champion, won the Tokyo title back in 2001. He is gunning for his second crown of 2009, having captured the clay court event in Houston back in April.
Youzhny, the only remaining player without a title this year, has never beaten Hewitt in three previous meetings. The two last played in Indian Wells in 2008.
Tsonga and Monfils, meanwhile, have met just once on the ATP Tour with Tsonga rolling to a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the Bangkok semifinals in 2008. Tsonga, the 2008 Australian Open runner-up, has four career ATP titles, including two this year. Monfils won two weeks ago in Metz for his second career crown.
The 2009 Tokyo champ will claim $300,000.
