Shanghai, China (My Sportsbook) - Andy Murray has withdrawn from next week's ATP event in Shanghai because of a wrist injury. A five-time winner on tour this year, Murray's wrist problems began during the U.S. Open tuneup in Cincinnati and cropped up again during Britain's Davis Cup playoff tie against Poland late last month. The Scot was examined this week and advised to rest for two to three weeks. "I apologize for the inconvenience that my withdrawal may cause but I trust you understand, the situation is beyond my control and I would much rather participate in the tournament than be in the current position regarding my health," Murray said in a statement to the event organizers. Murray, in addition to his Davis Cup effort, has played in just one other event since Cincinnati. He was a fourth-round loser to Marin Cilic at the U.S. Open. The third-ranked Murray won at Doha, Rotterdam, Miami, Queens and Montreal this year. He beat Rafael Nadal in the Rotterdam final, then lost to the Spanish superstar a few weeks later in the Indian Wells title match. A runner-up at the 2008 U.S. Open, Murray's best Grand Slam effort this year was a semifinal loss to Andy Roddick at Wimbledon.
