New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - The New York Yankees chose to select the eight-day American League Division Series and will open the playoffs at home Wednesday against the Central Division champion Twins. Minnesota beat Detroit, 6-5, in 12 innings at the Metrodome in a tiebreaker game Tuesday to win the division. That means the Twins have a short turnaround and will head to New York to play the Yankees, who finished with the best record in baseball at 103-59, in Game 1 of the ALDS at 6:07 p.m. (et). The AL West champion Angels will play wild card winner Boston in the first round for a third straight year, starting Thursday at 9:37 p.m. (et) in Anaheim. The Red Sox have won six of the seven games against the Angels over the last two years in the postseason. The NLDS games will begin Wednesday with East champion Philadelphia, the defending World Series winners, hosting wild card participant Colorado at 2:37 p.m. (et). It'll be a rematch of the 2007 NLDS, which the Rockies won in a three-game sweep. Later, the NL West champion Los Angeles Dodgers will be at home against the Central Division winning St. Louis Cardinals at 9:37 p.m. (et). The second game of both National League series will take place at similar times on Thursday, while the Yankees will have to wait until Friday at 6:07 p.m. (et) for Game 2 of their series. TBS will televise all Division Series games, which are a best-of-five format.
