Garrard, Jags keep Titans winless

Jacksonville, FL (My Sportsbook) - David Garrard tossed three touchdowns, including a pair to Mike Sims-Walker, and finished with 323 passing yards on 27-of-37 attempts to lead Jacksonville to a surprisingly comfortable 37-17 victory over winless Tennessee.

Sims-Walker finished with seven catches for 91 yards, and Marcedes Lewis caught four balls for 76 yards and a score for the Jaguars (2-2), who have won back-to-back games after dropping their first two tests this season.

Maurice Jones-Drew added a touchdown on the ground for the victors.

Kerry Collins ended with a respectable line but was inconsistent in a first half that saw Tennessee (0-4) outscored 27-3. The quarterback threw for 284 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions on 29-of-48 throws, also adding a rushing score in the defeat.

Chris Johnson gained 83 yards on 16 carries and lost a fumble for the Titans, who lost their first three games by a combined 13 points.

"We got beat in all three phases of the game," Jeff Fisher said. "We're going to go from here and get back to work."

Tennessee, which hosts unbeaten Indianapolis next week, won its first 10 games last season en route to an AFC South crown.

A facemask penalty and Lewis' 29-yard catch helped set up Josh Scobee's 22- yard field goal five minutes into the opening quarter.

Mike Thomas' 34-yard punt return had the Jags starting at the Tennessee 35 yard-line on their next drive, and three plays later Jones-Drew rushed for nine yards into the end zone.

After three straight three-and-outs to start the game, the Titans got on the board when Rob Bironas was true from 29 yards out, capping a 14-play, 78-yard drive with 9:11 left in the second frame.

Again Thomas gave the hosts a short field with a 42-yard kickoff return. In just three plays Garrard found paydirt, hitting Sims-Walker across the middle amongst a slew of defenders for a nine-yard TD.

Scobee added a 50-yarder later in the second frame, and after Johnson lost a fumble in his own territory, Jacksonville padded its lead even further. On the ensuing drive, Garrard had several nifty scrambles and hit Torry Holt for a first down on 3rd-and-11 to keep the chains moving.

After a penalty negated a Jones-Drew score, Sims-Walker was able to come down with a 15-yard TD reception. The play was originally ruled incomplete, but replays showed Sims-Walker was able to maintain possession before losing the ball as he hit the ground, overturning the call with 27 seconds left.

"I thought we were real sharp early. It was a good effort," Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio said. "[Garrard] did a great job utilizing all of our weapons."

Scobee missed a 55-yarder as the half expired following Gerald Alexander's interception of Collins, but the kicker booted a 33-yarder five minutes into the third quarter to take a commanding 30-3 lead.

Things got worse for Tennessee when Collins was picked off in the red zone on the next possession, and Nate Washington's 14-yard TD grab in the waning seconds of the third did little to shift the momentum of the lopsided affair.

Collins scrambled for a 10-yard score with 5:28 remaining in the game to give the visitors a little life, but Garrard caught the Titans secondary sleeping and hit Lewis for a 33-yard score three plays later to all but end things.

Game Notes
