Berlin, Germany (My Sportsbook) - Ze Roberto scored from the midfield circle late in the first half to complete a three-goal outburst, and Hamburg moved to the top of the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen with a 3-1 win over struggling Hertha Berlin on Sunday.
Ze Roberto, who joined Hamburg from Bayern Munich in the offseason, followed an own goal and David Jarolim's long-range effort with his fourth goal of the season in the 40th minute.
Hamburg remained unbeaten with its sixth win in eight matches, and sits second behind Leverkusen on goal differential of just one. Hertha won its opener, but dropped its seventh straight in Friedhelm Funkel's debut as coach.
Funkel just replaced Lucien Favre on Saturday, but Hertha's mistakes continued in yet another loss.
After German international Arne Friedrich headed Hertha to the lead just nine minutes into the match, three mistakes before the break put Hamburg in control for the easy win.
Hamburg's Jerome Boateng sent an innocent long ball toward Hertha's goal, and Kaka headed past goalie Timo Ochs in the 24th for an own goal to start Hamburg on its way.
After Ochs was forced to leave the game in the 33rd, Sascha Burchert - who was in goal in a 4-0 loss to Freiburg earlier this season - was caught well off of the line twice for Hamburg's following two goals.
Burchert, just minutes after entering the game, raced outside the area to try and clear with a header but the ball found Jarolim, and he lofted a shot over the goalie from 35 yards in the 38th.
Just two minutes later, Burchert was out of the area again to clear the ball, and this time the ball fell to Ze Roberto just inside the midfield line. The Brazilian lofted a 50-yard shot over the 19-year-old goalie to the empty net.
Also Sunday, Claudio Pizarro and Aaron Hunt scored as Werder Bremen posted a 2-0 win at Stuttgart. Bremen climbed to fourth in the league, while Stuttgart is just five ahead of last-place Hertha.
