London, England (My Sportsbook) - Chelsea took over the top spot in the Premiership table on Sunday as goals from Nicolas Anelka and Florent Malouda allowed the Blues to claim a 2-0 win over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
A scoreless first half that saw both sides cancel each other out was finally brought to life on the hour mark when Anelka finished off a cross from Didier Drogba, while the insurance tally arrived in stoppage time as Drogba once again played provider, this time for Malouda.
The win moves Chelsea two points clear of Manchester United, which was held to a 2-2 draw by Sunderland on Saturday, while Liverpool is now six points back of Chelsea and has lost three times in its first eight games.
The first half saw Chelsea create a few minor chances, while Liverpool was only able to muster one late.
Michael Essien's left-wing cross was turned on goal by the head of Anelka, but goalkeeper Pepe Reina made a comfortable diving stop to keep it out.
Six minutes later, Deco's free kick was headed over the net by Michael Ballack from six yards, while the Reds' lone opportunity came in the 45th minute when Alberto Riera's 35-yard free kick forced a late reaction stop by goalkeeper Henrique Hilario.
It took until the 60th minute for the opening goal to arrive, and it came after a turnover in midfield by Liverpool.
Essien collected the ball and played it ahead to Deco, who laid it off to Drogba on the left wing. He then delivered a pinpoint cross to the front of goal for Anelka to finish off.
Drogba tried to add to the lead with a long-range free kick that skipped inches wide, while Fernando Torres endured a quiet day and he scuffed a good chance wide from 14 yards with nine minutes remaining.
The home side then killed the game off in stoppage time as Drogba got to the end line on the right and pulled the ball back for Malouda to bundle home from close range at the near post.
Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas scored one goal and assisted on four more as the Gunners rolled over Blackburn, 6-2, Everton and Stoke City played to a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park and Fulham was able to come away with a 2-2 draw at West Ham despite going down a man in the 41st minute.
