Washington, D.C. (My Sportsbook) - Chivas USA earned an impressive 2-0 victory at D.C. United on Saturday night to position themselves in third in Major League Soccer's Western Conference. The Goats (12-9-5) now have 41 points, which place them in a tie with Seattle, which also won on Saturday. Chivas has two games in hand, however. An own goal in the first half and a Jesus Padilla goal in the second were enough for the visitors to hand D.C. its third straight loss, all of which have been on its hoe field. United's (8-9-12) loss also clinches a playoff spot for the Los Angeles Galaxy, who beat Chicago on Friday night. The game's first goal was scored in the 32ns minute when Chivas USA forward Maicon Santos received a ball at the top of the United penalty area, out- muscled a defender, and fired toward the net. The ball actually bounced off the left post, then off the back of goalkeeper Milos Kocic and into the goal for an own goal. Padilla made it 2-0 less than 10 minutes after the break when he got on the end of a free kick taken by Jonathon Bornstein, headed it off a defender, then fired past Kocic for his first goal of the season. United came unraveled shortly afterward, as Ben Olsen received a red card, forcing his team to play the rest of the game down a man. United will try to earn a result in an effort to make the playoffs when its hosts Columbus on Oct. 17, while Chivas USA will aim to solidify its position vs. Kansas City on Saturday in its next MLS match.
