Carson, CA (My Sportsbook) - The Los Angeles Galaxy moved one step closer to their first berth in the Major League Soccer playoffs since 2005 with a 1-0 win over the Chicago Fire on Friday night. Landon Donovan scored the game's only goal just before halftime as the Galaxy moved to the top of the Western Conference table, one point clear of Houston, which hosts Kansas City on Sunday. Now, if D.C. United doesn't earn a win vs. Chivas USA on Saturday night, the Galaxy will officially put an end to their three-year playoff drought. The Galaxy (11-6-11) have now won two of their last three MLS fixtures while Chicago (10-7-11) is winless in five. The game's only goal started from an over-the-top pass from Chris Klein. The veteran right-sided player found Donovan streaking behind the Chicago defense, and with goalkeeper Jon Busch caught in no-man's land, Donovan chipped a shot over him and in for his 11th goal of the season. The goal was Donovan's first since Aug. 19, a span of five games. The Galaxy will aim to continue their surge on Oct. 18 at Houston in their next MLS match, while Chicago will try to snap its winless streak at New England a day earlier. |
