Commerce City, CO (My Sportsbook) - Two Major League Soccer teams on the playoff bubble square off at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday where the Colorado Rapids host the New England Revolution.
New England currently hold the third spot in the East with 27 points and five games remaining, while Colorado holds the third spot in the West with 39 points and three games remaining.
The Revs (10-9-7) are coming off a 1-0 loss at Dallas on Wednesday night and will be aiming to rebound on Saturday.
"We made one mistake and they scored," New England coach Steve Nicol said. "The team looked solid. The only thing I'm really disappointed with is that we weren't more positive on the break, particularly in the first half. We had chances to go forward, but we didn't take them. Otherwise, I thought the shape was good and the spots were good. We didn't really give them anything."
Dallas forward Jeff Cunningham, who was just named MLS Player of the Month, scored the game's lone goal.
"I thought we did a great job on him defensively, keeping him in front of us and keeping him going back," New England defender Darrius Barnes of Cunningham. "He just got loose in the box for that one opportunity and he finished it. Credit goes to him for putting that goal away. That's what he's done all season, score goals. He's the league leader in goals now. We didn't play well enough to win the game."
Colorado (10-8-9) is coming off a scoreless draw at Kansas City this past Saturday and will be playing its final regular season home game on Saturday.
"New England come to us on the back of three games in eight days as we've come here. They've had a terrific win [last Saturday]," Colorado coach Gary Smith said. "They [lost at Dallas on Wednesday 1-0 and] come into our place and try to play a very tight game. But that lends itself to us being more creative and being more expressive. The group will be ready for that having been on a decent run."
The Rapids will be without midfielders Colin Clark, Jacob Peterson and Jamie Smith, while goalkeeper Matt Pickens is doubtful and defender Cory Gibbs is questionable, all with injuries.
New England will be without midfielder Wells Thompson because of suspension, and defender Chris Albright, midfielder Steve Ralston, and forwards Edgarus Jankauskas and Taylor Twellman because of injuries. Defender Gabriel Badilla and midfielder Sainey Nyassi are also questionable with injuries.
