KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -Tennessee forward Emmanuel Negedu will remain hospitalized through Tuesday night as doctors continue to test and observe him after he collapsed following a workout.

The 6-foot-7, 218-pound sophomore from Kaduna, Nigeria, collapsed in the Volunteers' weight room Monday afternoon and was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that Negedu was without a pulse and team trainers Chad Newman and Jason McVeigh revived him with a defibrillator within minutes. Tennessee officials would not confirm that Negedu's heart had stopped beating, though coach Bruce Pearl was thankful the incident didn't happen away from UT and medical staff.

Negedu was alert when an ambulance arrived.Copyright © 2005 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. The information contained in the AP News report may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed without the prior written authority of The Associated Press.
