Frisco, TX (My Sportsbook) - New England's Shalrie Joseph admitted after last week's 2-1 win over Seattle that it was a "great team win," but his focus was on injured teammate Steve Ralston.
"The sad part now is Steve Ralston; hopefully it's not too serious. Everyone's focused that hopefully we can get him back as soon as possible," Joseph added Saturday night, after he scored both goals in the comeback victory.
Ralston left the match in the first half with a knee injury and Joseph's hopes that the Revolution captain could return quickly ended Monday when Ralston was ruled out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL.
"For what he does for the team, you just can't replace him at all," Revolution coach Steve Nicol said.
New England (10-8-7) will move on without Ralston on Wednesday, when it visits FC Dallas (8-12-6) at the Cotton Bowl in the second of three matches during an eight-day stretch.
"At this stage of the season, it's all about results and points," Nicol said. "We'll just have to find a different way (without Ralston).
"We're certainly going to have to mix it up."
New England enters the match in third place in the East and eighth overall in MLS - the last playoff berth - but is the only postseason contender with five matches remaining.
The Revolution have overcome the loss of Taylor Twellman this season, another of the players who helped lead New England for four MLS Cup finals in the last seven seasons.
Without Ralston in the mix, New England has to adjust while also trying to get into the playoffs. Ralston was second on the squad with seven goals and seven assists.
"Not winning (against Seattle) would have made a big dent in the rest of our campaign, but we got three points and we'll march on," Nicol said.
Nicol is also without Chris Albright and Edgaras Jankauskas, and Sainey Nyassi and Gabriel Badilla are both questionable.
New England was winless in its previous three matches before the comeback, and Joseph agrees with his coach that it's just about getting points over the next five matches.
"No matter where we play right now, we know that the playoff picture is coming around and we need points no matter where we go," Joseph said.
Dallas is playing at the Cotton Bowl as the first match of a doubleheader that will be followed by a Mexico-Colombia friendly.
MLS veteran Jeff Cunningham, who is tied for the league lead with 15 goals, is the bright spot in Dallas' year. Since Kenny Cooper left the club, Cunningham has 14 goals in 10 games.
"I've got to give my teammates a lot of credit," said Cunningham, who is second all-time in MLS with 119 goals. "They are looking for me, giving me a lot of scoring opportunities.
"Every game, they're giving me good opportunities."
Dallas has won two of its last three games and scored 11 goals in the process, although its playoff hopes are slim - even if it wins its last four matches.
In addition to Cunningham being on fire, FC Dallas handed U.S. defender Heath Pearce his first start and he played well in Saturday's 3-0 win over Real Salt Lake.
Dallas has some concerns with Anthony Wallace out through injury and Brek Shea and Kyle Davies among four players with the U.S. U-20 squad for the World Cup.
But coach Schellas Hyndman feels good after "one of our better games as far as playing from the start to the end" against Real Salt Lake, and he hopes to get that same effort against New England.
