Tokyo, Japan (My Sportsbook) - Top-seeded and defending champion Dinara Safina fell to 18-year-old Taiwan qualifier Kai-Chen Chang Monday in the second round at the $2 million Toray Pan Pacific Open. Chang, ranked 132nd in the world, outlasted Safina 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 7-5 in a bout that last nearly three hours. The anonymous youngster advanced to the second round last week at the Korea Open before losing. She made her 2009 WTA Tour main draw debut at this year's U.S. Open and reached the second round. Safina bested Svetlana Kuznetsova in last year's all-Russian final on the hardcourts at Ariake Colosseum. In first-round action involving seeded players, Australian Samantha Stosur defeated American Alexa Glatch 7-5, 6-0, Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli cruised past Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6-3, 6-0 and Russian Nadia Petrova moved on after Japan's Ai Sugiyama retired in the second set because of an illness.
