Columbus, OH (My Sportsbook) - The Columbus Crew improved to an almost perfect 9-0-4 at Crew Stadium this season with a 2-0 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer action on Saturday night. Eddie Gaven and Steven Lenhart scored goals on each side of the half and Will Hesmer made three saves to earn the clean sheet to lead the home side to victory. With the win, Columbus (12-4-10) widens its gap atop the league's overall table to three points over Houston, which has played an extra game. The Crew are now just seven points from clinching their second straight Supporter's Shield as MLS's regular season champion. The Crew went up 1-0 in the game in the 33rd minute when Eddie Gaven headed home an Emmanuel Ekpo service. Ekpo controlled the ball in the offensive third and played a ball to the right side of the L.A. penalty area to Gaven, who skied above a defender and headed the ball back against the grain off the far post and in. The goal was Gaven's sixth of the season. That was how the score stayed until just before the hour mark when Emilio Renteria drove into the L.A. penalty area, deked around defender Omar Gonzalez and fired a shot on goal. Goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts got a hand on the ball to knock it away, but Crew attacker Steven Lenhart pounced on the rebound and slammed it home to make it 2-0. It was Lenhart's third goal of the season. The Crew will try to continue to gear up for the playoffs when they host Seattle next Saturday, while L.A. will try to rebound vs./ Chicago on Friday in its next league fixture.
