Frisco, TX (My Sportsbook) - Real Salt Lake heads to Dallas fighting for their playoff lives in Major League Soccer action on Saturday night.
RSL (9-10-7) is currently three points out of a playoff spot with just four games remaining, meaning the full points are a must.
The team is coming off a 3-2 loss at Houston last weekend. In that game, it fell behind two goals in the first five minutes and recovered to draw at two before allowing a late winner to take the loss.
"It was a fascinating game, high intensity affair," RSL coach Jason Kreis said. "I think the fans got their money's worth, there's no doubt about that. I was extremely proud of my guys to show that kind of fight in those kinds of circumstances. I think there's not a whole lot to feel bad about, I think we have to feel very good about that game and match next week and the next three matches after that."
"We came into a tough place to play against one of the best teams in the league, and you always want to get a point, but I think it shows a lot of character what we did, and it gives us some confidence heading into our next couple games," RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando said. "Obviously, we wanted at least a point and three points would have been great, but we have four games left. That leaves 12 points for us to get."
Dallas (7-12-6) is all but eliminated from playoff contention after a 3-2 loss at Kansas City last week, but it showed it is still fighting by the 6-3 win at Los Angeles the week before.
"The thing I'm encouraged about is we lead the league in goals," Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said. "We score goals. When they slip through your fingers, it has nothing to do with coaching or qualities of players. The players have to invest as much into the defending as they are into the attacking."
The Hoops had a late defensive slip up in last week's loss that allowed an unmarked Jimmy Conrad to knock home the winner in the final stages of the game.
"It takes 90 minutes to win a game and it takes one second to lose it," Hyndman said. "The first goal, it was ball watching. We had three guys that were standing by themselves. Their player takes two steps back and scores a header maybe two yards away from goal. It was his first goal of the year and probably the easiest goal."
FCD will be without defender Anthony Wallace, while defender Blake Wagner is listed as probable on the team's injury report. Also, youngsters Josh Lambo, Brek Shea, Peri Marosevic and Kyle Davies will be unavailable because of the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
RSL will be without defender Jamison Olave because of suspension, while midfielder Clint Mathis and defender Robbie Russell are probable with injuries.
