Motherwell, Scotland (My Sportsbook) - Hibernian enters the weekend in third place, four points back of leaders Celtic, but their start to the season is not sitting well with striker Derek Riordan.
The club got off to a great beginning under manager John Hughes, winning its first two games in the league, but Hibs have lost two of their last three league encounters, and were bounced from the Scottish CIS Insurance Cup by St Johnstone on Tuesday, a team that Hibs handily beat in SPL play just three days before.
However, Riordan believes that despite some poor performances, his team has done well to pick up points, and once they adjust to the system of Hughes, that they will only get better.
"We are certainly not playing well just now, not nearly as fluent as we want to be playing," Riordan said. "The manager has been changing things a bit and obviously it's going to take us time to find the correct balance in the team, we have a lot of new players and it will take time to find the right system. It will take time but we are picking up league points even though we are not playing anything like as well as we know we can play."
The former Celtic striker has done his part to lift the team, scoring three goals in five games, but a win on Saturday at Motherwell would be a positive step for a team still finding its way.
Motherwell has yet to taste defeat this season, and after advancing to the next round of the Insurance Cup on Tuesday with a 3-2 win against Inverness, the club will be full of confidence.
Celtic will try to keep hold of the top spot in the league when they visit St Mirren, Rangers hosts Aberdeen after successive scoreless draws in the league, Falkirk hosts Kilmarnock in hopes of earning its first win of the season, while fellow winless side St Johnstone entertains Dundee United and Hearts hosts Hamilton in a battle of bottom-half sides.
