Villarreal, Spain (My Sportsbook) - Real Madrid kept pace with Barcelona on Wednesday as the club recorded a 2-0 win over Villarreal at Estadio El Madrigal, giving Real four wins from its first four games.
Cristiano Ronaldo continued his hot start to the season by scoring his fifth goal of the campaign inside of two minutes, while Villarreal was reduced to 10 men in the 35th minute when Gonzalo picked up his second yellow card. The match did not start well for the hosts as Ronaldo struck in the second minute after taking possession of the ball on the left wing and dancing past two defenders. He then drove the ball low and inside the near post, just past the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Diego Lopez.
Things got even worse for the hosts in the 35th minute when Gonzalo made a reckless challenge on Kaka in midfield, earning himself a second yellow card and putting his side at a severe disadvantage.
Ronaldo almost added to his tally right before the break when he volleyed just over the crossbar from the penalty spot, while Real goalkeeper Iker Casillas didn't receive his first test until the 48th minute on a shot from Giuseppe Rossi.
Villarreal nearly had an equalizer 10 minutes later when Santi Cazorla's right-footed blast whistled past the upper right corner, but the match was effectively put away with 20 minutes left as Marcelo's cross struck the arm of Villarreal's Angel Lopez inside the area.
Kaka then stepped to the spot and sent the keeper the wrong way, giving the former AC Milan man his first Real Madrid goal.
Athletic Bilbao had its perfect start spoiled by Tenerife as Mikel Olano Alonso scored the game's lone goal in the 87th minute of Tenerife's 1-0 win, Atletico Madrid was held to a 2-2 draw by Almeria as Pablo Piatti scored the equalizer in stoppage time, while Xerez suffered its fourth successive defeat, losing 3-0 to Deportivo.
