Tashkent, Uzbekistan (My Sportsbook) - Top-seeded Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan highlighted Tuesday's first-round winners at the $220,000 Tashkent Open.
Shvedova pasted Italian Maria Elena Camerin 6-1, 6-1 on the hardcourts at Olympic Tennis School. Shvedova's second-round opponent will be Russian Ekaterina Ivanova.
A Day-2 upset came when Russian Ekaterina Bychkova toppled third-seeded Romanian Ioana Raluca Olaru 7-5, 7-5.
Two other seeds avoided upsets, as No. 6 Romanian Monica Niculescu leveled Italian Corina Dentoni 6-3, 6-0 and No. 7 Austrian Patricia Mayr handled Belarusian Ekaterina Dzehalevich 7-5, 6-4.
The host nation got opening-round wins from Akgul Amanmuradova and wild card Nigina Abduraimova on Tuesday, as Amanmuradova held off Russian qualifier Ksenia Lykina 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 and Abduraimova drilled Ukrainian qualifier Lesya Tsurenko 6-3, 6-2.
Additional Day-2 wins came for Russians Ivanova, Vesna Manasieva, Evgeniya Rodina and qualifier Alexandra Panova, German Kathrin Woerle, and Belarusian Darya Kustova,
Last week's Guangzhou champion, Shahar Peer of Israel, will play her first- round match here on Wednesday against Estonian Maret Ani. Peer is seeded second this week.
The 2009 Tashkent titlist will earn $37,000.
